Trip Home

Day Two

Portsmouth, OH to Cleveland Heights, OH:

Entering Ohio near Portsmouth.  I got lost here because I forgot that the US 23 bridge into Portsmouth is closed as it is rebuilt or something.  This is the Truck US 23 bridge, which is poorly signed as it enters Ohio.  I ended up heading toward Cincinnati on US 52 before I realized I was not headed home anymore. See?  That sign right under the BGS says "To US 23."  Weird, yes, but I still took it to mean that US 23 was accessible via US 52.  Stinkheads at OhioDOT.
Here's my unintended detour on US 52 WB. This is after I've tuned around.  This is in Portsmouth.
There are still some pretty impressive hills in southern sections of the state. Couldn't they have consolidated a bit?
US 23 is expressway-grade from Portsmouth to Columbus and beyond. Overhead gantry.
I like when consecutively numbered US Routes intersect. Go Circleville.
More Circleville. In the country now.
This area of the state is pretty pretty. US 33 is being upgraded in central Ohio, and is currently under construction around Lancaster.

All that's left now is to stripe and sign the roadway, or so it seems.  I don't know what lurks beyond the bend. You're in Lancaster, Ohio!
You're still in Lancaster, Ohio! Now headed north on OH 664.
An OH 664 hill. Just plain old OH 664.
Skip ahead a few miles, after 664 ends, and now OH 256 ends. For no reason in particular, I don't really like how Ohio signs its interstate junctions like this.
The I-70 and OH 13 interchange. Getting onto OH 16 in Newark.
Ooh!  OH 16 is an expressway! OH 16 EB.
At Coshocton, we pick up OH 83 NB. OH 83 is a curvy, hilly, scenic highway.
See?  Curvy! A while later, we're on OH 585 headed to Akron.
West of Akron, on the former US 21 NB. It is an expressway in this region.
Ah, but soon enough, it merges with I-77 NB.  And my Trip Home comes to a blurry close.
