Illinois

Western Illinois Trip

Westbound US 24 over the bridge that goes from Quincy, IL, to the state of Missouri.  This is a new bridge, and the old bridge still stands, although it's not in use. This is the old US 24 bridge.
US 24 becomes an expressway in Missouri, and this is just before it gets to the US 61 expressway.  I don't quite remember, but I think this was taken from US 61 Southbound.  This was a confusing interchange and I missed an exit and had to turn around.  Or maybe it was a really simple interchange and I'm just dumb.
US 24 EB in Missouri.  The old road is to the right, and still is in great condition, meaning this bridge is quite new.  You can see the old, blue bridge to the right as the new highway curves to the left.
Thar she blows. Crossing back into Illinois on US 24 EB.
Illinois 57 starts just ahead.  I don't think there should be a "To" banner on this one. IL 104 begins here, too.
Bunch o' Roads: US 24, IL 96, Lincoln Heritage Trail, and the Great River Road.  All north of Quincy. JCT I-172.  No mention of IL 336 until the actual interchange.
IL 336 is mentioned here, as well as the Quincy Airport and I-72. Whoa, Nelly!  Got a little close to these signs.
To IL 107, which could easily be a northward extension of US 54. Climbing a hill on the small IL 103.  This is a great road, even if it's only like 10 miles long.  You get a great view of the Illinois plains at the top of this hill.
This was taken descending said hill.  The view is grander at the top, but I couldn't get the camera out in time and wasn't going to turn back to get the shot. EB IL 103 nearing US 67 and IL 100, which share pavement from here southward to IL 104, west of Jacksonville.
IL 103 ends here at US 67 and IL 100. Southbound on US 67 and IL 100, going over the Illinois River to Beardstown.  Had to get Cass County in, ya know.
IL 125 East starts here, on its way to Springfield. Northbound IL 100 in some small town, maybe Frederick or Browning?
IL 100 follows the Illinois River and thus, trees line the road. And there are curves and hills, too.
On US 136 West and IL 78 and IL 97 NB coming out of Havana.  Had to get Mason County in, ya know. I-474 shield back on US 24 WB in Peoria.
Overheads for I-474. IL 29 exit on I-474 East.
These are interesting shields where IDOT saves time and money by putting IL 8 and IL 116 in one shield. Peoria has a pretty cool skyline for a city of 112,000.
More skyline. IL 29 in Peoria is two one-way roads with 4-lanes apiece.
The stub end of the IL 6 freeway north of Peoria.  Will this freeway ever be extended northward to meet I-80 as the Chicago-Peoria corridor?  Probably not. South IL 6.
We exit IL 6 at IL 40 North. The scene further north on IL 40.
Whew, just barely got a pic of IL 90 in. I wasn't too good at centering this photo, either, on IL 17 EB at IL 29.
IL 17 at IL 117. The bridges on I-39 don't have central supports.  This is NB.
I guess they were testing the interstate roadway here LONG before I-39 was commissioned.  The sign says 1956-62 and I-39 was only commissioned in the 1980s. That's all for this one!  Doesn't Illinois rock?
